sources of information
Information on this web site is based on research conducted by Bill Pekonen of 175 published newspaper clippings; magazine articles; and the artist’s personal records.
Those records were obtained about 20 years after the artist died of natural causes from the late Frank Steggles,
an executor of her estate. More than 100 photos and other information were also obtained.
Frank was desirous of ensuring that Emily Sartain’s legacy of bringing the need to preserve wild flowers would carry on.
The executor of the Steggles estate, Frank's grand-nephew Wayne Joyce, also co-operated by designing this website to carry out Frank’s wishes.
Frank and Betty Steggles (both of whom are now deceased) were very close friends of Emily Sartain for over 40 years.
Numerous art galleries and public libraries in Canada, Great Britain and USA were also helpful
in providing copies of clippings held in their artist files.
A complete list of these institutions will added at a later date.
