1958British Columbia’s Centennial Year. 100 of Sartain’s paintings that had won a Gold medal in London, were included in a special two week display in the rotunda of the Victoria Legislative buildings. Princess Margaret on her official visit to British Columbia, viewed these paintings on July 14, 1958. She was familiar with Emily’s work since both her mother and grandmother (Queen Mary) owned paintings by Sartain. Princess Margaret was aware of Emily’s efforts to conserve Canadian wildflowers. Princess Margaret also asked to see where the wild flowers that were shown in the paintings grew in the Victoria area.
